CHOOSE A SCIENCE AND ADVENTURE TRAVEL PROGRAM
Gtrek is a series of programs that are a part of the worldwide movement to create positive experiences for young people in the outdoors through education, service and adventure. Our programs help overcome the obstacles of getting outside to explore, learn, discover and play and provide real world science learning opportunities to prepare students for future study and careers.
Two themes guide all programs:
Revising the Leopold Land Ethic – rooted in the belief of working landscapes, that natural resources can and should be used for the benefit of human communities/mankind but not at the expense of natural, healthy, functioning wildlife and plant communities. And, that by being on the land, interacting with animals, working (and playing) in natural landscapes is absolutely essential to developing the land ethic.
Educators - browse our programs, find one that you get excited about and let us build it to meet your needs. Use the program for high school or college credit or to meet STEM or Common Core Standards. Teachers travel for free.
Why a Gtrek Program?
Research shows, the outdoor classroom promotes creativity, critical thinking, increases attention and motivation and improves student achievement. Your program can be used for high school or college credit or to academic standards (state, district, STEM, Common Core).
The life skills you develop on a gtrek program contribute to your cognitive, social and physical development. Whether learning how to track grizzly bears in the Montana wilderness, or to snorkel and count fish on coral reefs, or pitch a tent, you will realize your potential and be prepared to apply the lessons learned throughout your lifetime.
Both teachers and students work closely with skilled professionals in the sciences, land and ocean stewardship, sustainability providing opportunities for professional growth and developing future careers.
Each program includes the option for 8-24 hours of service work. Service learning explores important social, political, environmental and economic issues, cements values and beliefs, and develops the potential to make a difference at home or in the world.
